The Life You Gain

Welcome to my first blog post! I’m so glad you’re here! Because if you aren’t here then I’m just writing to myself and that’s not nearly as much fun.

That’s more like a diary, and truth be told I was never any good at keeping up with those. If you added up all the pages of all the diaries I’ve kept over the years, I’m not sure we’d crack double digits.

Writing to myself, about myself, got old quickly I guess.

Suffice it to say, I’m glad you’re on the other end of the blogosphere, friends.

I should start by introducing myself and telling you a bit about what you can expect from this little corner of the internet. But first, take a minute to get comfortable.


Find your favorite chair. Put on your stretchy pants. Get a snack. Or a drink. Put your hair up. Or let your hair down.

Okay, here we go.

I’m Erin. I am a certified personal trainer, certified barre instructor and the Operations Manager for Lean Body Lifestyles, a boutique personal training studio in Tacoma, Washington.

I think we are the best personal training studio, bar none. I may be a bit biased, but we did just get voted Best Personal Trainer in the South Sound by Seattle’s A-List. And we consistently rank in the top 20 on Evening Magazine’s Best of Western Washington list. So, you don’t need to take my word for it.

We offer women a safe, private and fun exercise experience. We focus on improving our clients’ health and quality of life, as opposed to placing an emphasis on weight loss or body fat percentages.

We don’t weigh or measure.

We empower and encourage.

We don’t shame or guilt people into sticking to an exercise program.

We make exercise accessible and enjoyable.

We don’t yell at clients that “their last easy day was yesterday,” while pushing them to do burpees until they drop.

We play their favorite music and ask them about their day.

I keep saying “we” because Lean Body Lifestyles isn’t just me. I have two smart, funny, kind and qualified colleagues. You can read more about Nikki and Sarah (and me) by clicking here.

We decided to start a blog for several reasons. First, we wanted to give clients and friends an inside look at what was happening at the studio.

Second, we noticed that many of the people who “like us” on Facebook and follow us on other social media platforms don’t live anywhere near Tacoma. We have fans all over the country and internationally (hello, international friends!). And we wanted a way to communicate the same news and information with those people that we share with the clients we see face-to-face every week.

We are committed to helping as many people as possible, but there are only so many hours in the day. So, the impact we can have by training people in-person is limited. A blog is a means of expanding our reach exponentially.

The plan is to post twice per week—on Mondays and Thursdays. We have tons of ideas for topics, but we would love for some of our content to ultimately be driven by you.
